Why should I buy the 2 LB MLV over the 1 LB?
The difference between 1 LB and 2 LB Noise Grabber™ Mass Loaded Vinyl is substantial, but it is impmortant to realize that more is not always better. Based on the sound you are trying to eliminate, different weights of MLV can have different effects. 2 LB MLV has a 32 STC rating, and generally, blocks more sound than the 1 LB MLV, which has a 26 STC rating.
2 LB MLV is best served for louder, deeper frequency sounds. Examples include heavy equipment, trucks, large appliances, HVAC, or other items that emit a deep tone. That does not mean that 2 LB MLv can't block higher pitched frequencies, it just means that it is not as effective with high tones as it is with lower tones.
1 LB Noise Grabber™ MLV is the best all-around solution. With a 26 STC rating, 1 LB MLV works as the best all-around solution for blocking noises of all frequencies. For more general purpose sounds, such as TV noise, conversational noises, and other general residential or office noises.
